Lokta- One of a kind Paper
Lokta Paper, commonly known as Nepali Kagaj, was the only kind of paper produced and used in Nepal from the 12th century till the 20th century. It is popular for its attractive texture, durability, strength and resistance to insects. The paper used to be widely used write mantras, sacred texts and for all official government and legal documents. Nepalese Lokta Paper is handmade from one of the local plant species (Daphne Papyracea or Daphne Cannabina). These plants grow on the southern slopes of the Nepali Himalayas between 5250 and 13000 feet and is found in 20 hilly districts in Nepal. They are generally small and woody and grow as shrubs reaching a maximum height of 7 feet. October is the beginning of the Lokta collection season and it is harvested like sugarcane by cutting the stem about 11 inch above the ground. It completely regenerates in about 4 to 6 years if being cut to about at least 6" from the ground and the bushes can produce three to eight new ones. Paper Sourced from the local rural community: In late 20th century the paper market was flooded with cheaper paper from China and India, which nearly proved terminal to the local paper making industry and affecting the livelihood of the villagers directly. But since the incorporation of Nepali Paper Products Pvt. Ltd, the company have been sourcing its raw materials (Lokta shrubs) from the rural Himalayan region of Taplejung, Bajhang and Dolakha district of Nepal while working with the local women led forest conservation and protection community (Nepal). In the process, we provided the local community the skill to make lokta paper sheet and directly purchased the Lokta sheets from the local people of the same area.
Tree free paper: Most of our products are made from Lokta paper. Because it is not only a tree free paper but the process of making it is also entirely organic. Besides it is one of the strongest papers with a unique texture and most resistant to resistant to termites or. Decay. When lokta bark is harvested, this evergreen shrub automatically regenerates in 5-7 years. It is one of the few underutilized species in the world. This makes Lokta paper an extremely eco-friendly alternative to typical wood-based papers.
The paper made from Lokta shrub is bleach free (which is found in most of the papers) and also is widely considered as one of the finest handmade papers.
We view each of our relationship as a personal partnership based on professionalism, understanding and mutual trust. We act reliably and responsibly. We create a high degree of loyalty in customers with our competent and excellent handmade products. We work in the interests of our customers.
